My Day Out – Classic Car Outing 2019

My Day Out – Classic Car Outing 2019

At the Chordoma UK Christmas Fair 2018 I spotted this outing in the ‘silent auction’ and put in my bid. It sounded like an interesting day out for a great cause so I was delighted when my second bid came through as the ‘winner’.

We waited for warmer weather (well a bit warmer anyway) and set out on our trip on the morning of Saturday 13th April. There were three cars and drivers so I was able to invite along two of my family which was a great way for us to all get together and have a fun time – no organisation required on our part apart from getting ourselves to the departure point.

……and we’re off

We duly set off mid-morning and, although chilly, it was a beautiful, bright day and the cars were looking at their best having been polished up by the drivers. A picturesque drive with our sociable drivers then ensued down into West Sussex where we stopped for a coffee break at the lovely Uppark House in South Harting. The spring flowers were conspiring to brighten the morning and we strolled past pretty swathes of daffodils into the gardens for our coffee.

The drivers and their cars

Feeling more encouraged by the continued sunshine the roofs were put down on the cars and off we set along the country lanes to Goodwood. Our lunch stop was at the The Kennels club in Goodwood which was a lovely comfortable setting for our relaxed lunch looking over Goodwood House and grounds. We enjoyed a very convivial and interesting time with our driving hosts and then, taking the opportunity to try a ride in a different car, we swapped our positions for our journey back.

The journey home was once again great – all three (Gerry Fitz-Gibbon, Toby Strauss and David Maughan) of us agreed that being driven around in lovely classic cars by some very sociable drivers and being looked after with coffee and lunch stops is really the best way to spend a Saturday supporting a great charity. We just wondered why we didn’t do this sort of thing more often…….

Our heartfelt thanks goes to our drivers who really made the day special by looking after us so well.

How your donation is spent

There is little funding available for research into this relentless bone cancer mainly because it is relatively rare, occurring in only 1 in 800,000 of the population. Without a focused approach to raising money for research into chordoma, little will change quickly.
